Overview:

THANK YOU!

First of all, we want to thank all participants and the amazing team of volunteers that made the 1st, 2nd and 3nd Hope Walks in Davis a success, including our partners, First Baptist Church, St. James Parish , the CA-House and International House Davis.
These events were held to give everyone, particularly children, the opportunity to do something concrete in the face of the worldwide AIDS epidemic. We walked, ate energy bars, drank lemonade, played games, and listened to people talk about their hopes for an AIDS-free future. On the days of the events, we were delighted that consecutive Davis Mayors Sue Greenwald, Ruth Asmundson, and Don Saylor were able to attend.
During these HopeWalks events, we also benefited from the singing of Mary Suparek, the Mommy & Daddy” band, Laura Sandage & Katie Henry, Coexist, and Frank Starsnik’s magic. And thanks to everyone who helped blow up hundreds of blue and orange balloons!

10 easy ways to be part of Hope Walks Davis 2010:

1). Have your organization or club become a partner with us:

Our current partners are listed above. We are seeking additional partnership with groups of all ages – schools, religious groups,  Sunday schools, youth groups, and adult groups.  Hope Walks is for learners of all ages – from preschool through adulthood.

  • Together we can educate children and adults here on the problems that affect many orphan and HIV-infected children in developing countries, including their stories of sadness, but also of courage and hope.
  • Together we will raise funds that will provide direct support to these orphans.
  • Together we help children here understand that they can make a difference…and by joining in the walk, give hope to other children!
  • Training curricula and other materials are available from previous Hope Walks and can be adapted to fit your group.
  • Click here to download the religious version of our curriculum.
  • Click here to download a version without religious scriptures.

Are you interested to also partner and walk with us? Do you like to learn more? We can send you a DVD, pamphlets and other information, and will be glad to come and talk to you!
Contact Koen at davis@hopewalks.org

2). Help us to seek general sponsorship for the event:

Click here to download the pdf with further information. Event sponsors will be acknowledged online, at the event and in publications according to their level of support, so this is a great opportunity for corporate sponsorship.

3). Register for the walk:

Registration has started! Please go to http://hopewalks.org/davis.
Registered participants will receive an official Hope Walks T-shirt.

4). Raise funds/ seek sponsorship:

After registration, you can create very easily a fundraising web page and e-mail the link to your relatives and friends. It only takes a few minutes to create a page! It's that easy!

IMPORTANT: an anonymous sponsor has agreed to donate $10 to each person who makes an online fundraising page and, when e-mailing out the link, also includes davis@hopewalks.org .

In other words, just by creating an online fundraising page and e-mailing it out, you are already raising money for this good cause and are assured that your balance will not be zero!

To find a sample letter that you can use for your e-mail, go here or click here to download the word file.

Are you feeling fearful or embarrassed to e-mail your webpage link to your relatives and friends?
Then ask yourself: "How do you feel when you write a check to your favorite organization?"
Fundraising is not just about money...it is more about educating people and giving them the opportunity to also feel good about themselves by helping to make the word a better place. It gives satisfaction to your sponsors to know that they are also helping needy children.

Indeed, last year, many children and adults were happily surprised to learn that after an e-mail, many of their relatives and friends were eager to make a contribution for a good cause, and many relatively small donations easily add up! Some youth raised money by having a lemonade stand at their house, or organizing a car wash. Use your creativity and you will be surprised by the results!

Even if you don't register for the walk, you can still raise funds and make a webpage.
1. Go to http://www.firstgiving.com/hopewalksdavis
2. Click on “Create a Fundraising Page”.
3. Click “Registered offline. Create my fundraising page” and follow the steps.
4. E-mail then the link to your relatives and friends and invite them to become part of our efforts.

5). Form your own Hope Walks team:

Nothing can build more momentum for a community event like team spirit!

team

We encourage you to invite family, friends and co-workers to be a part and walk on your team. Walking and fundraising with family and friends is a chance to spend time with those you care so much about, while making a difference at the same time!

We can provide you with a HopeWalks DVD and other materials that explain what it's all about, brochures, flyers and other information.

To enhance the sense of team spirit, you can decide to have some common apparal (buttons, caps, flags?) that you can also wear at many other occasions. You can also make a banner with your team name that you can carry around on the walk.

Here are a few examples of teams:

Friends & Family Teams
Form a team; you can do it! Ask three or more friends or family members to join you, form a team, choose a name and start fundraising! Here’s a chance to spend time with those you care so much about, while making a difference at the same time!

Corporate or Workplace Teams
Does your company have team spirit? Then show it at the Hope Walks Davis. Companies of all sizes are encouraged to form teams. Forming a team of employees and their families is a great way to boost company morale and increase community visibility. It also builds teamwork, generates excitement and encourages friendly competition.

Organizations & Clubs Teams
Do you belong to a local church, youth group, brownies, school, Chamber of Commerce, cheerleading team, etc.? If so, you can form a Clubs and Organization Team with other members in your group! This is also a great way to get to know one another and create long lasting relationships.

When you register online, you can start a new team or join an existing team. More questions? Don't hesitate, e-mail us at davis@hopewalks.org.

6). Become a Hope Walks Davis Volunteer:

Many volunteering tasks are easy and fun, and shifts still allow volunteers to do the walk and participate in the other activities. We encourage volunteers to also register (which automatically guarantees a Hopewalks T-shirt) and/or to seek sponsorship, as explained above. If you belong to a children's or youth group that likes to get involved with the educational or entertainment aspect (making displays; helping with the games; read, sing or dance during our opening or closing ceremony), please contact us.
To receive a volunteer sign-up sheet, e-mail us at davis@hopewalks.org

Volunteers are invited on Sunday October 3 at 4 pm at International House Davis (on the corner of College Park and Russell Blvd) for a volunteer education and training meeting, consisting of snacks and education on what Hopewalks is about. At this meeting, volunteers will also learn more about the different volunteering tasks and can meet their respective co-chairs who will communicate further details. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting; volunteers who cannot attend this training meeting will be assigned to our best ability according to their personal preferences.

7). Raise awareness and educate people on HIV/AIDS and orphan issues:.

We have training curricula available, including for children, which can be used to teach in classrooms, sports clubs, youth groups etc; consider giving a presentation or hosting an event to tell others about the issues that face orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS. Please contact us at davis@hopewalks.org.

8). Sponsor a walker or team:

To learn more, go to http://hopewalks.org/davis

9). Spread the word:

Talk to your loved ones, to your groups and clubs, to your school teachers and principals, to your colleagues or company’s supervisor/HR/PR person.

10). On October 17, please come walk with us, and participate in the fun activities.

Thank you so much for helping many needy children via our Hope Walks Davis event.  Your efforts make a big difference by directly providing these kids with the most precious gift in life: a better childhood and a hopeful future.

We look forward to seeing you all on October 17!
