Since its inception in 1999, Sahaya has raised nearly 1.2 million dollars. Many thanks to all our generous donors and dedicated volunteers!

As Sahaya is 100% volunteer-run, we have no salary expenses. Our low 4% overhead expenses are fully covered by specific donations by our directors and income from sources such as Goodsearch. Therefore, your generous contribution is sent to our partners overseas to have maximal impact. Click the links below to learn more.

CHARITY WORK DAYS

December 10, 2010 and January 28, 2011

What is Charity Work Day?

The concept of Charity Work Day is that on that day, the participant will work for a charity like Sahaya International. On Charity Work Day, participants will go to their regular work but will voluntarily donate a certain amount (partial or full) of their daily salary to a charity like Sahaya.

Participants can select either December 10, 2010 or January 28, 2011, as their Charity Work Day, depending on whether they like to make their contribution tax-deductible for fiscal year 2010 or 2011.

The December 10, 2010 and January 28 2011 Charity Work days raised so far $1660! We thank everyone who contributed Donations continue to be accepted until February 27, 2011.

Because Sahaya International is a registered 501(c)3 organization in the USA, contributions to Sahaya International are tax-deductible in the USA according to standard IRS rules. Our tax ID number is 68-0434770. Tax receipts will be mailed to you. If possible, provide your e-mail address and we can e-mail you your tax receipt.

Participants can dedicate their hours of of charity work in honor of, or as a meaningful holiday present to a loved one. At your request, we will glady mail an acknowledgment card (see below).

What will the money be used for?

100% of the donations will go towards construction of the fundraiser for building of the 2nd level of the Mother Teresa School of Periykrishnapuram (click for more info on the school). In 2008, we completed construction of a one-storey building with four classrooms. But since then the number of students has grown to 171 students, and the classrooms have become overcrowded. The estimated price is approximately $50,000. We have already raised approximately $26,000 and only need approximately $24,000!

Please join our efforts and provide the underprivileged children of rural India with a better education.

Timing of donations:

Participants can contribute through December 31 to make the donation still tax-deductible in 2010. If you prefer to make a charitable donation for fiscal year 2011, please date your check for 2011. Contributions to the Charity Day program are accepted until February 27, 2011.

If you dedicate your Charity Work as a special holiday season gift to a special one, and you like the recipient to receive our acknowledgment card by December 25, please notify us by December 13 of the information (see below) to allow us sufficient time to process this. After that date, we will still send out acknowledgment cards but they may not reach your loved ones on time.
